House Of The Arches

Working in historic contexts, as well as being a continuous technical challenge, has always an element of excitement that derives from the continuous discovery process.

This project was particularly interesting due to the continuous discovery of historical layers, from the entrance cloister, to the gothic arch, to the innermost rooms. Finding ways of reviving this building was a great stimulus.

Our young clients accepted the challenge of reinventing these spaces, of playing with colours and textures with the aim of enhancing the spirit of place.

In the end, the result was evidence that respect for history is not demonstrated by using historical architectural pastiche but by understanding that all continuity of history means is continual transformation. And in this case our project simply adds a further layer to the existing stratification of history.
